The Yakima Business Journal interviewed me in July, 2009 and wanted to know how the
ban on horse slaughter in the United States has affected the horses in the Yakima Valley. My take on it
is probably a little different than most people. Horses are still being shipped to slaughter in Canada and Mexico from
the Yakima Valley, so that hasn't changed at all. What I do think is an improvement in our region is so many breeders
cutting back on their breeding, evaluating what they are breeding and why, or completely getting out of breeding
altogether. Supply and demand dictates our economy, and dictates the horse market as well. We have far too much
"supply" of horses in the USA right now, so it has driven the "demand" down to ridiculous levels.
