THESE ARE SUCCESS STORIES!

These horses have found good homes, and Sunny Acres Ranch is very happy to have had the pleasure
of knowing these horses and meeting their new families.

Lyrical - 12-year-old Quarter Horse Mare

Lyrical is easy to catch, leads, ties, bathes, clips, stands still for mounting, has been ridden
by children, and loves attention. She will go English or Western and is pretty to look at too.

Lyrical has finished a successful rehab for navicular disease. She is sound at walk, trot, and
canter. Because of her past issue, regular and correct hoof care will be a necessity. Lyrical is
suitable for arena work or light trail riding, but I wouldn't recommend hard riding.

Lyrical has had children ride her. She is very kind and easy to handle. She does tend to get
herdbound and likes to stay with her herd. If she is your only horse, you could take her out by
herself on trails. If you have other horses, she would prefer to go riding with them along with her.

Pretty - 9-year-old Thoroughbred and Approved Westphalian Mare

Pretty is a trained Jumper, and has been ridden over jumps by a teenage girl.
She is a nice mare and has been with the same family for over 5 years. This mare is
young and in the prime of her life. She has lovely gaits, and is ready to go back
to work after raising a foal the past year.

Pretty's Jockey Club papers were sent to Germany to be stamped by the
Westphalian registry.

    Shandi - yearling AQHA Filly

Shandi is a sweet little girl that came to the ranch with her mother in October, 2008.
She was pretty much unhandled when she arrived, but it didn't take much to get her
used to being caught. She is now easy to catch and will even come to greet you in the
pasture. She stands still for grooming, leads nicely, and gets hoof trims every 6 weeks.

Shandi's dam is a red dun with Sir Quincy Dan and Sir Quincy Bob on her papers. Her
sire is a gorgeous grulla named Smokin' Lynx Olena. Shandi is a quality filly with a big
hip, baby doll head, and a friendly, curious personality. I expect her to be very easy to
train, and should make someone a fantastic riding horse in a couple of years.

Shandi has been adopted by one of the boarders here at the ranch. She will be his next
riding horse in a few years after she is trained. Shandi seems to be one of those rare
horses that was "born broke". It took me all of 5 minutes to teach her to longe, and she
continues to just take everything in quiet and calm acceptance. She really is a gem!

Diva Star - 16-year-old Warmblood Type Mare

Diva came to Sunny Acres from a foster home in another rescue. She arrived over 200 lbs
underweight, full of worms, and had rain rot and scratches. She was very defensive, almost
to the point of being aggressive when handling her. She was probably one of the toughest
horses that I have ever had to deal with.

Although it was obvious that she had some nice training, you always had to be on your toes
with Diva. She could be loving and sweet on minute, and then try to intimidate you and run
you over the next. That being said, I had this horse here for more than 2 years, and I never
once saw her spook at anything! Diva would march up to the scariest of objects and demand to
know what they were and if they held treats.

Diva is now the confident trail partner of a man who has handled breeding studs for a large
breeding farm. He is not intimidated at all by her antics, and has really caused Diva to WANT
to please her person. This just goes to prove there is a perfect person for even the most
    difficult of horses.

    Rello - 5-year-old Thoroughbred Gelding

Rello is a son of the fabulous Thoroughbred stallion - Northern Afleet - who won more than
$600K on the racetrack. Rello's previous owner paid $10K for him as a yearling, but he did not
have the competitive spirit to be a great racehorse. Rello had an accident at some point that
left him with a few scars and body trauma, and was almost starved to death when he arrived at
the ranch. He made an unbelievable turn-around in a little more than a year and completed 60
    days under saddle.

Rello's new person is a 16-year-old girl who thinks he is just beautiful and special....and he
is! Everyone that came in contact with Rello fell under his spell and adored him. He has this
sweet, almost babyish innocence about him that is just so appealing. His new girl knows all
about his history and physical trauma, and is planning to help him continue gaining his strength
and conditioning slowly but steadily. They are planning some slow trail rides and some light
arena work. I had really hoped that Rello would be lucky enough to find a home that would love
him and think he is the best horse in the whole world. He had a really rough start in life, but
he has finally landed on easy street!

Whiskey River - 11-year-old Thoroughbred Gelding

Whiskey is a huge boy, but truly the gentle giant of horses. He is probably one of the
sweetest horses I have ever met. He loves attention, will come when you call him, leads,
ties, loads in trailers, longes, clips, stands nicely for the farrier, and will happily go
    either English or Western.

Whiskey found his forever home with a 10-year-old girl. We never thought of him as a kid's
horse, but he took to his girl immediately. It was so sweet to see this giant horse put his
head down to check with his small partner and then do everything she asked of him. She has
been hitting the shows with him all summer and they are racking up the ribbons! Whiskey hit
the jackpot and should have a wonderful life ahead of him with his new family!

Belle - 16-year-old Registered Thoroughbred Mare

Belle is sired by the popular Thoroughbred stallion, Meritable, and
her pedigree reads like royalty. She came to Sunny Acres from a
large Thoroughbred breeder and trainer who was downsizing.

Belle was a broodmare and pasture pet for several years, so we had
to start her under saddle again. She is fantastic! She has a slow
Western jog to die for, a gorgeous extended trot, and will try her
heart out for you. She has a very sensible mind, willing attitude, and
a very nice horse to be around.

Belle has already formed a good bond with her new owner, and they
enjoy each other's company. Her new family loves her so much,
they found and purchased one of her half-sisters as well.

Splash - 17-year-old Registered Quarter Horse Mare

Splash is cute, cute, cute! She came from a home who had to board her at a
barn where she was kept in a stall for 23 hours a day. Splash was very
unhappy, depressed, and was losing weight. When she arrived at Sunny
Acres, she was about 150 lbs under weight.

Splash is one of the nicest, sweetest horses I have ever rescued and
rehabilitated. I liked her so much that I would have kept her for my own
personal horse, but the absolute perfect home came along for her, and
it was truly love at first sight.

Splash will be a trail horse and partner for her new owner, and she has such a
huge stride (for such a small mare) that she is easily keeping up with the big
Thoroughbreds that her new owner trail rides with. Finding a perfect match
like this is what makes it all worthwhile.

   Tessa - 14-year-old Thoroughbred Mare

Tessa is a daughter of the popular Thoroughbred stallion, Tough Knight. She is a HUGE
mare with substantial bone and muscle mass. Tessa has been used as a broodmare for
several years, so she is getting a refresher course on the basics. She likes attention, stands
for the farrier, leads, and loads in trailers.

Tessa is current on hoof trims, de-worming, and dentistry. She is ready to start another
career with the right person guiding her. This mare has amazing bloodlines for someone
interested in eventing. With some time under saddle, she will easily become an incredible
investment for her new family for many years to come!

Tessa has been adopted and will be living "the good life" with a wonderful family in Oregon.

Ginger - 23-year-old Quarter Horse Mare

Ginger was saved off of a feedlot where she was going to be
shipped to Canada for slaughter in October, 2006. I discovered
immediately that she had Cushing's Disease. It is caused by a small
tumor on the pituitary gland in the brain. Side effects may include a
long, curly coat that is difficult for them to shed in the summer, a
tendency to founder if regular hoof care and diet are not monitored,
and a very low tolerance for carbohydrates and sugars.

I immediately cleaned up Ginger's diet - eliminating all grains and
alfalfa, adding the Dynamite nutritional supplement, and only
feeding her grass hays and limited pasture. Sometimes Cushing's
horses require expensive medications, but Ginger has been doing
very well with the diet changes and adding a few herbs. She sheds
out her summer coat all on her own, and looks spectacular!

Ginger has been adopted, but still lives here at the ranch where she is
teaching a young man to advance his horsemanship skills.

Dallas - 14-year-old Buckskin Pony Gelding

Dallas is a darling little guy - 13.2 hands - large pony size. He is another horse that was about
to be sold to a kill buyer and headed for slaughter. When he arrived, he was about 100 lbs
underweight, and had a raw sore on his face where a nylon halter had been left on so long.

Rehabilitating Dallas was fairly simple. It just involved getting his weight back up to normal,
and healing up his face. He healed quickly and put weight on just as fast.

Dallas is a very nice pony who leads nicely, ties, loads, bathes, and even though he is very
athletic, he is also very obedient. He was ridden Western and worked cattle before he came
here, and while here he went into training for huntseat and jumping with an 11-year-old
rider - (pictured). You can see what a sweet little guy he is!

    Ashlie - Quarter/Paint Filly born May 7, 2007

Ashlie (or Callie's Midnight Ashlie if you want to be formal) is a "Paint that ain't".   Her Mom is
Callie, a black and white Paint mare also listed on this page. Ashlie is pictured here at 7 weeks
old. Since Callie was rescued from a feedlot about to be sent to slaughter, I had no idea what
her foal would look like when it arrived. I was stunned at how classy and beautiful she was. It
is amazing to me that someone would breed a nice mare like Callie to an evidently very nice stud,
by the looks of Ashlie, and then send them to a an auction or feedlot.

Ashlie has a beautiful and feminine baby doll head, great conformation, and a huge set of
hindquarters that will turn and burn with the best of them when she is grown. She is so sensible
minded and friendly too. In less than 4 months, she was halter broke, leading, picking up her feet
and allowing me to handle and touch her anywhere.

    Callie - 12-year-old Black/White Paint Mare

Callie is a beautiful mare with a quiet and easy to be around disposition. She came to the ranch
from a feedlot where she waiting to be shipped to slaughter. She arrived at the ranch in 11/07,
and I noticed immediately that she looked pregnant. A lot of people may not know that
pregnant mares can be shipped to slaughter in the U.S. as long as they will "probably" not foal
    during the trip.

I had no history on Callie when she came to me, so there was no idea what she had been bred to.
She finally gave birth to a long legged filly on May 7, 2007. She has been a very good Mom to
Ashlie, and they were both adopted together in August, 2007. It is hard to believe that someone
let such nice, quality horses go to a feedlot.

    Frisco - 15-year-old Paint Gelding

Frisco came off of a feedlot where he was going to be sent to slaughter. He had some definite trust
issues, and at first he could be hard to catch. As he spent a few months here, he learned that humans
were not going to hurt him, but they did need to be respected. He tended to be a dominant type, and
if he got scared or felt too pushed, he would just try to take charge and do things his way. He is a
very sweet boy who will try his heart out for you once you gain his trust though.

Frisco is now a California boy, and he is teaching manners and setting a good example for a 4-year-old
gelding. His new owner just loves him dearly and has taken him to a Parelli clinic, a Bryan Neubert
clinic and on trail rides.  You might see him up on the trails working for the Forest Service too!
